Wales is a country that is a part of the countries in the United Kingdom with population over 3.2 million. It shares border with England at the east. The north and west borders the Irish sea and the south of the country borders the Bristol channel. Presently, Wales is referred to as one of the Celtic countries. The national identity of the country arose within the Celtic Britons when the Roman withdraw from Britain in the fifth century. Initially, Wales joined with England and the laws of England are used in Wales.

In 2011, the population of Wales is approximately 3.2 millions it covers an area of 20,779 sq.km. The country is located in the north temperature region. During the period of industrial revolution, Wales changed from a farming country and started building mining and metallurgical companies.

Presently, the economy if the nation depends largely in tourism, providing services and publicly owned industries. A large percentage of the population resides in south Wales majorly in the area of Swansea, Cardiff and Newport.

Based on our research, Wales population will reach 3,307,856 (around 3.3 millions) by 1st July of 2024. We use first day of July each year due to Office for National Statistics (ONS) normally publishes the estimated population data for the same period. The calculation is based on the average growth rate of 0.59% over last 12 years since 2011. We believe using the recent years’ figures (see the table in next section) will make the estimation more accurate.

Demographics of Wales

Wales has various ethnic groups from different part of the world. 94.2 percent of the population is British White i.e. People that originated from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. 2.2 percent of the population are Asians (either pure Asians or British Asians), 1 Percent of the population are mixed, 0.6 percent of the population is either British black or African black and some are Caribbean black.

From the census in 2011, 27 percent of the Wales population was not given birth to in Wales. Also, 21 percent of the total population of the country was born in England. The majority of the population is located at the industrial places like Cardiff, Newport and Swansea.

Christianity is the widely acceptable religion in Wales. From the 2011 census, 57.6 percent of the total population claimed they are Christians. A huge percentage if these Christians attend Anglican and Catholic churches. Islam is the second largest religion after Christianity in Wales with 0.8 percent of the population known as Muslims.

The official languages in Wales are English and Welsh languages. English is the language spoken by almost everyone in Wales. Although, west and north of Wales have some people that Welsh language is their first language. According to the 2011 census, 19 percent of the country population can speak Welsh language.
