Leicester is a city of England with population over 400,000. The city is a district settlement of Leicestershire. Leicester is located close to the River Soar and to the termination of the National Forest.

This city is at the juncture of two key railway lines in the country. The railway lines are the north or the south Midland Major line and east or west line that connects Birmingham to London.

Leicester is one of the oldest places in England, the history of the city started from more than two ages ago. The Romans advanced the Iron age they met at the place during the first or the second century. King Richard III was buried in the city.

Based on our research, Leicester population will reach 477,293 by 1st July of 2024. We use first day of July each year due to Office for National Statistics (ONS) normally publishes the estimated population data for the same period. The calculation is based on the average growth rate of 2.88% over last 12 years since 2011. We believe using the recent years’ figures (see the table in next section) will make the estimation more accurate.

Demographics of Leicester

The ethnic groups in the Leicester are many. The Whites are the largest ethnic group in the city with 50.6 percent of the total population. There are various groups of white people in the city variesdepending on their origin; there are 45.1 percent British whites, 0.8 percent Irish whites and 4.6 percent white people from other places. Other ethnic groups include Blacks (6.3 percent), Asians (37.1 percent), Arabs (1.6 percent) and other groups (1.6 percent).

Unlike the religious activities of other places in the world, the religion features of Leicester is not wide-ranging. The Christians are dominant in the city with 32.4 percent of the population, Muslims are 18.6 percent of the population and Hindus are 15.2 percent of the population. Other religions are Sikhs (4.4 percent), Buddhism (0.4 percent) and Jews (0.1 percent).

English is the most spoken language in Leicester, 72.47 percent of the population can speak and understand English language. Gujarati is the second common language in the city, 11.54 percent of the population can speak the language. Other languages are Punjabi (2.4 percent), Polish (1.97 percent), Urdu (1.07 percent), Somali (1.06 percent), Arabic (0.8 percent), Bengali (0.57 percent) etc.
